How to calculate hours worked
To calculate hours worked, subtract the start time from the end time, then take out any unpaid break. Do that for each day and add the days together for your weekly total.
Step by step
- Convert to a common format. Use a 24-hour clock or keep AM/PM consistent.
- Subtract start from end. 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM = 8 hours.
- Remove unpaid breaks. Minus a 30-minute lunch = 7 hours 30 minutes.
- Convert to decimal if needed. 7:30 = 7.5 hours (30 ÷ 60).
- Add up the week. Total each day for your weekly hours.
